To branch off is to react and take a step aside by experimenting, paths, here and now. To branch off is to explore other possible avenues, collective, sober, respectful of life and adapted to each context. The challenge of the International Design Biennale Saint-Étienne 2022 is to encourage design to go on an adventure: what is it already doing? What more can he do otherwise?
The International Design Biennale Saint-Étienne 2022 is a gigantic medium that explores bifurcations through six exhibitions.
1. AT HOME:
Panorama of our domestic lives
Curator: Catharine Rossi, Jana Scholze, Penny Sparke
Put into perspective the major changes that characterize our ways of living and living in domestic spaces. Places of expression of identities, revealing of inequalities and riddled with social injunctions, bifurcations of ruptures are desired and expected.
A biography of the automobile
Commissioner: Olivier & Anne Peyricot Chaniolleau
This exhibit uses an object emblematic of the industrial culture of the XX th and XXI th centuries to question its role in the structural organization of our addictions when forking.
3. SINGULAR PLURAL
Curator: Franck Houndégla
Singular practices geared towards improving the living environment combine ancient knowledge and contemporary techniques, anchored in the local environment, which today are avenues for bifurcations.
Curator: Florian Traullé
Through a selection of products and services under study or recently marketed by leading French companies in their sector, the exhibition invites you to understand the design processes of objects related to the body.
5. THE WORLD OR NOTHING:
Co-curator: Sophie Pène
Co-curator and scenography: students and teachers of the Saint-Étienne School of Art and Design
This laboratory shows learning and educational alternatives to develop capacities for action individual and collective, up to societal challenges.
6.INSIDE THE PRODUCTION:
An exhibition-experimentation proposed by designer Ernesto Oroza: a citizens’ assembly to promote public interactions through theater and music. This exhibition will give rise to a sensitive recording which will document over the weeks the debates centered on new ways of producing.
